"Spending over a decade living and working in Japan has provided me with a valuable insight into it’s people, culture and the importance of the garden, historically and to the modern day, from gardens of national significance to those from the suburban courtyard.

The experience has had a profound influence on my ideas not only of landscape design but that of purpose particularly in the unique relationships between form, textures, materials and colours along with the importance of creating tranquility and mystery within the garden using sound and structure.

Whether it be uniquely Asian influenced water features such as the “ Shi shi odoshi” and “Nagasu taki” or the “Iwaki” garden border or more subtle influences such as "Yotsume gaki" fencing or the number of items used and their position, my time in Japan has left it's mark."
